Artist Q&A | Erikartoon

Posted on June 03, 2015 by Stickerbomb Staff

If you were wondering who the person behind all the butts and boobs peppering the Stickerbomb store was, think no further as we're here to tell you more about the artist, Erikartoon!

Give us a brief introduction of yourself.

My name is Erika, born, raised and based in Singapore and I like drawing boobs and butts .

When did you start making stickers? Why stickers?

I started making them back in my school days. My friends and I would make stickers just to pimp up our studio up and sell them at our school market.

After graduation, I wanted to start a personal project on leaving my footprints around the world. I began making stickers and tagging them where ever I went. It sort of feels like I am leaving a part of my soul in that place. If I have a chance when I am old and shit, I would want to go back to visit those places where I stuck them at and re-live those memories from my youth and tear up like I was filming a Thai commercial.

When I see people slapping my stickers on their stuff, I feel like I am connected to the person even if I don’t know who they are. I am awkward in nature and it’s hard for me to talk to strangers. The stickers are kind of helpful in a way to help me meet new people with similar interest. In a way, they are like a life hack tool for me.

Tell us more about your detailed style. Who/What are your inspirations?

My style and inspiration came from different phases of my life.

When I was a kid, I would buy mangas just to redraw them. Japan and Korean manga illustrations tend to have a lot of details and it took me a lot of time trying to get the strokes and details right. I didn't mind spending all that hours back then, it beats studying math.

Another phase that influenced me was when I was working for a company where my job scope exposed me to all sorts of renaissance paintings and I had to research them. I guess this is where I was influenced to draw boobies and butts.

My favorite artist would be James Jean hands down. I first knew about his work when I bought The Black Parade album by My Chemical Romance. It was love at first sight when I open the cover and saw his painting of the parade. He has been my number one inspiration ever since.

What are your future plans?

Get more merchandise out there to create an army of cool kids wearing my T-shirts splattered with fake blood and taking over the world. Oh yeah, and to continue making more stickers.

Tell us some random fun facts about yourself.

I was pretty good at running, got 3rd place in the nationals when I was 14. But then art school happened and nobody believes me when I tell them about it.

My first career choice was to be lawyer because get to wear that Darth Vader looking robe and get paid well to look cool.

I‘ve never been to a strip club.
