Artist Q&A | Ekiem

Ekiem is a skateboard culture fanatic from Lyon, France, who lives and works in the city as an artist and graphic designer. We interview Ekiem on his hometown, his work style and what projects and exhibition plans he has for the future…

I would describe my personal work as revolving around simplicity, stemming from clear and moulded lines, mixing bold colours, repeated patterns and often using type processing.

The local art scene in my town is very creative , you can see new paste-up posters or new walls very often.

I can't tell you what has been the most important thing to happen in my work but my first graphic for a skateboard company was a good thing for me.

I’m from the skateboard culture scene of the late 90’s and as an artist / graphic designer I always wanted to design a skateboard graphic.

I work as an independent artist and graphic designer in my studio based in Lyon, mainly alone at the workshop / office with my computer but sometimes with a team for collaboration on biggest projects or for wall commissions.

The artists I would say to look out for are Plot , Monsta and Les Autres.

For future projects I'm working on my next exhibitions, an apparel collection, snowboard graphics, new sticker design, an artwork for a CD cover, a t-shirt collaboration...
