Please tell us your name and where you are from.
My name is Danny Willemen. I'm from the south region in The Netherlands.
How would you describe your work?
How does someone describe his own work… I don't think I should. This is something people that like my work are probably better at than me, I'm sure. It's in the eye of the beholder. The only "useless" thing i can say about it, is that i try to come up with things that keep it real… in a freaky, fresh, amusing, weird, sometimes absurd, realistic, yet sometimes unreal way…?

What makes your work unique and what inspires you?
Don't think what i do is unique. I do have my own kind of handwriting of course, and i try to create things as original as one can. But i think i am still trying to find my style. Maybe i always will. I was never able to do just one thing. Always a little of a lot of things. Humanoids, movies, and music inspire me the most.
When did you first discover your passion for art?
As a young boy at school, i guess. Drawing hundreds of little soldiers, gunned down by jet-fighters, and other soldiers of cliffs 'n buildings. Very inspiring stuff! Later on this changed to all sorts of sexual figures. Untill things got seriously educational. Ehmm, don't know if this counts as art by the way… Let's just say i always had an interest in images, and creating them.
What was it like to grow up in your home town? Did you have any favourite places to chill
and get inspiration?
Had a nerdy groing up in a small town. Running around with a big viewmaster on the tip of my nose. Playing, and chilling everywhere.
How is the local art scene in your town?
I know they do good stuff over here, but i'm a reasonably new kid in town, so don't know all the in's and out's. Just moved to Breda ("the pearl of the south") one of the bigger southern cities of The Netherlands.
If you had to pick one artist that inspired you the most who would it be?
This would be in an other field. At this very moment: Fink aka Fin Greenall. Music is my biggest passion, yet i don't play an instrument. I do whack furniture around with a few drumsticks sometimes.
What has been the most important thing to happen to you/your work that has pushed you
forward and why?
It is not something that has happened. It's more about the thing i carry with me. All the time. It's called being restless, i think. And i hope it is what i need to keep working on stuff, questioning things, myself, etc… Now, i only need to embrace or accept it as a tool, then i'm fine! ;)
What is your work process? Where, how do you like to work? Do you work alone, late at night, drink, socialise?
Don't have a smart, original answer with this one. It comes and goes. I'm triggered when i experience stuff, watch movies, listen to music, brainfart with friends, meet people, and so on…. living life. I work alone, at any time when i get inspired. I'm not a day person. Working under pressure works best.
What has been your biggest challenge as an artist?
Any artists we should look out for?
That's too hard. I dig so many different styles for so many different reasons. In the arts; movies; music… by naming just a few, i would forget dozens.
What projects are you working on at the moment and where would you like to take your work next?
I need to keep drawing, illustrating. Don't stop. Never stop. Currently working on my new corporate id, which show more of my illustration skills. Having a good time trying to come up with new weird things. Also working on more and better ways to sell T-shirts. For me still one of the coolest forms of canvas. I want/need them to be even more one-of-a-kind… maybe even making one design per shirt, every time.
Which city would you like to visit next and why?
Berlin sounds good. Edinburgh looks good, And i would like to go back to Gent soon, in Belgium. A very cool city. Still need to look around in Klaas van der Linden's studio!
